The Akshaya Patra Foundation has sent samples of its food to the laboratory for an additional testing. This has been done aside from the regular measures it undertakes to ensure that excellent food safety and hygiene practices are followed across all its kitchens.

Students from DJ Halli (an Urdu medium government primary & high school) in Bangalore complained of feeling uneasy on 19th September after eating the mid-day meal. The students who expressed discomfort were immediately taken to the hospital where their reports came back without issue. According to a doctor at the hospital, "The students are safe & kept in hospital just for observation."

The Akshaya Patra Foundation maintains a carefully regimented cooking process to ensure the highest levels of quality and hygiene in its food. These kitchens adhere to Food Safety Management Systems which include sterilising all the cooking equipment and utensils with steam before cooking, using 304 grade stainless steel for the vessels, conducting training sessions with the cooks and supervisors to ensure food safety, undertaking pest control measures and checking 'Critical Control Points' like cooking temperature etc. Find out more about Akshaya Patra's quality processes here.

The organisation which also served the mid-day meal to other neighbouring schools on the same day has received no complaints. On 20th September two Government officials visited the Akshaya Patra kitchen and conducted a thorough inspection. They expressed satisfaction over the adequacy and effectiveness of the processes and control measures.
