The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a unique organization for children supported by the government, corporates, businessmen and philanthropists.
All our achievements as the largest non-profit organization in the world to implement the mid-day meal program have been due to the collaboration and hard work of our various stakeholders.
Children who benefit from our program are our biggest strength as we move ahead in our mission towards a hunger free nation. Their contented smiles motivate us to work vigorously towards our mission every day.
Teachers play a major part in our school meal program. Their support in sustaining the program on a day to day basis has helped us to improve the quality of the food reaching children.
The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a unique Public Private Partnership (PPP) where the Government is a major stakeholder. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (Department of School Education & Literacy) plays a large role in the implementation of the mid-day meal program. The Government of India, along with various State Governments, provides subsidies in the form of cash and grain grants.
They also give us various directives & guidelines, (such as the requirements per meal, standards for nutritional content etc) in order to ensure that the child receives a healthy, balanced meal.
Their unending support has helped us reach out to lakhs of children everyday.
Hailing from reputed institutions, the missionaries manage the massive scale of our operations. They have been instrumental in adapting new technologies to our requirements and improving the quality of food. It is with the help of their selfless dedication and commitment that we are able to feed close to 1.2 million children everyday.
Generous donations from individuals, corporates and public sector units have helped us provide a nutritious, balanced meal for the children. We rely on the kindness of our donors to sustain and expand our program. Donations given to the Foundations are tax exempted.
Our enthusiastic volunteers have always supported us in all our endeavors. Often playing the role of ambassadors, they champion our cause and raise awareness about the need to help children.
The Akshaya Patra Foundation forms a unique blend of people from different walks of life, who have come together with one singular aim: provide the children of India with food and, in doing so, help them continue their education.
Comprised of missionaries, corporate professionals and entrepreneurs, our Board of Trustees is the driving force behind the organization. With uncompromising principles and strong governance, they have guided The Akshaya Patra Foundation to the heights that it has reached today.
Our Advisory board includes bureaucrats, successful businessmen, government officials and eminent personalities from the corporate world. Along with the Board of Trustees, they provide guidance and support for the Foundation.
More than 3641 staff members work every day to ensure the smooth running of the mid day meal program. Our 15 centralized and 3 decentralized kitchens provide millions of meals every year and to date we have seved over 1 billion meals. All these achievements can be attributed to the untiring efforts of the staff and missionaries.
Our finance team ensures complete transparency in all operations. Internal audits are conducted at each centre on a quarterly basis. The statutory auditors of the foundation are M/s BSR & Co, a leading chartered accountancy firm in India, the Foundation’s IFRS reporting is audited by M/s KPMG.
