Children achieve significant developmental milestones throughout their first six years of life, laying the groundwork for adulthood. Thus, it is essential to provide them with a healthy diet on a daily basis to support their physical and cognitive development. At the same time, continued access to proper diet in childhood reduces their likelihood of developing chronic illnesses in adulthood.
Women have unique dietary requirements throughout their lives, especially during pregnancy and nursing, when they are most vulnerable. It is imperative to guarantee that they have access to a healthy diet, sufficient services and care for the well-being of the mother and child; good health of the mother translates into good health for the child.
THE ANGANWADI FEEDING PROGRAMME
The Akshaya Patra Foundation provides mid-day meals in schools as part of the Central Government's PM POSHAN Abhiyaan, which aims to end classroom hunger and childhood malnutrition. Similarly, as a part of the government's Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Anganwadi Feeding Initiative, we serve cooked meals to toddlers, breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women at Anganwadi Centres across four locations: Vadodara and Surat (Gujarat), Warangal (Telangana) and Ongole (Andhra Pradesh). Anganwadi feeding targets anaemic pregnant and lactating women who are at high risk of giving birth to malnourished children. Every meal is curated to improve the nutritional status of women and children.
Currently, Akshaya Patra serves meals in Anganwadi centres across 4 locations of 3 states of India.
With your donation of ₹1900, you can serve wholesome meals for 300 days.
Growing children and new mothers need your help.
