The Akshaya Patra Foundation’s momentous milestone of serving four billion meals was commemorated at the UN headquarters on 2 April 2024. The event showcased India's proactive efforts to promote food security and provided a model for other countries looking to take meaningful action.

A special event titled ‘Achievements in Food Security: India's Strides Towards Sustainable Development Goals’ was held on Tuesday by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN. It highlighted the nation's creative approaches, policies and accomplishments in the areas of nutrition and food security in alignment with SDGs, especially SDG 2 – Zero Hunger.

The event was graced by Infosys Founder, N R Narayana Murthy, Nobel laureate, Kailash Satyarthi, Permanent Representative of India to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj, Chairman of The Akshaya Patra Foundation, Madhu Pandit Dasa and Vice-Chairman, Chanchalapathi Dasa.

In a message sent especially for the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the entire team of Akshaya Patra with ‘immense pride and joy’ on the achievement of the ‘remarkable milestone’ of serving 4 billion meals.
Currently, Akshaya Patra serves 2.1 million children every day in 24,482 schools across 72 locations in 16 states and 2 union territories. This is possible only because of the steadfast commitment of the Government of India, several state governments and UT administrations, corporate partners, individual donors and philanthropists, and more than 8,000 employees of Akshaya Patra.
