The Akshaya Patra Foundation (TAPF) has been bestowed upon the Nikkei Asia Prize for supporting education by nourishing children, thus playing a pivotal role in the socioeconomic development of the region. Akshaya Patra was felicitated in the Economic and Business Innovation category. The award ceremony will be held in Tokyo on 29th May, 2016. On behalf of The Akshaya Patra Foundation, its chairman, Madhu Pandit Dasa will accept the coveted recognition.

Individuals and organisations are honoured with the Nikkei Asia Prizes for their outstanding contributions towards the development of Asia. So Akshaya Patra, which serves mid-day meals to over 1.5 million children, thus providing them an incentive to come to school, being honoured with the same shouldn’t really come as a surprise. In fact, the organisation aims to reach 5 million children by 2020 and a recognition of this stature will only serve to boost its enthusiasm.

The two other individuals who were also honoured this year include, Prof. Jiang Lei (Science and Technology category) and Dogmid Sosorbaram (Culture and Community category).

The Nikkei Asia Prize for its contribution towards the socioeconomic development of Asia; what better testimony for the efforts put in by The Akshaya Patra Foundation to eradicate classroom hunger and promote education?
