On December 24, 2019, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Shri. Manish Sisodia, inaugurated Akshaya Patra’s 51st kitchen. This is the first kitchen in India’s splendid capital, Delhi and it will benefit 22,000 children enrolled in Delhi State Government Schools. This project is a testimony of the conviction and contribution of our partners in our shared vision of creating a Nourished India, Educated India. Special thanks to Shri. Heavy rainfall across North Karnataka has resulted in heavy flooding & many people have evacuated to temporary relief shelters. Akshaya Patra, along with brave men and women from Aikyayouth, our official volunteering arm, has started relief operations in 48 temporary shelters in Dharwad where over 16,000 people are being served breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
July 17, 2019, heavy flooding in Assam resulted in thousands of people being displaced. Akshaya Patra responded to this grave situation and started flood relief operation in Athgaon, a small locality on the outskirts of Guwahati. Currently, two hot meals are being served to people in the region. The relief effort will continue until the situation stabilizes.
The ‘New Product Development Centre’ was inaugurated on June 29, 2019 in the august presence of Mr. Kamal Kumar Baishya, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup and Shyamanta Madhob Sarmah, Joint Director of Health Service. The new development centre will be used to create yummy new nutritious dishes for the Mid-Day Meal menu.
Glimpses of Akshaya Patra’s relief effort in Gujarat where approximately 3-lakh people have been evacuated from low-lying areas of Saurashtra and Kutch due to the oncoming cyclonic storm, Vayu. At the request of the State Government, the Foundation has begun relief efforts, providing meals to 1000 people in Bhavnagar area. The effort will continue until the situation stabilises.
