The Akshaya Patra Foundation has been supporting relief efforts in flood-hit Gorakhpur city and its neighbouring towns and villages. Kitchen on Wheels, a customised vehicle designed by Akshaya Patra to support flood relief efforts, is stationed at Gorakhpur. With the help of the mobile kitchen, the staff is tirelessly cooking food for the survivours.

With the beginning of the new academic year, Shri Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh inaugurated the new academic year at School Chalo Abhiyan and Vanutsav programme conducted in Lucknow. Apart from encouraging more children to get back to school, the initiative also spoke about importance of planting more trees.

On June 7, 2017, after the launch of Feed the Future Now in Delhi, The Akshaya Patra Foundation launched the campaign’s official video. Feed the Future Now is a national movement to raise awareness about importance of nourishment amongst children and its impetus to education. This movement aims to serve 5 billion meals to children across India by 2020 with a view to create a ‘Poshit Bharat, Shikshit Bharat.’

On the eve of World Hunger Day, Akshaya Patra launched a movement called ‘Feed the Future Now’ which was flagged off by Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Minister for Women & Child Development. The event was graced by Mr Amitabh Kant, Chief Executive Officer, NITI Aayog; Mr Shridhar Venkat, Chief Executive Officer, Akshaya Patra, along with the CEOs and senior representatives of corporate partners.

Outride Hunger 2017 – Season Three

On March 19, 2017, Akshaya Patra organised its annual biking rally in Hyderabad where more than 250 bikers participated to ride for a cause. Bikers assembled at Akshaya Patra campus in Banjara Hills at 7 am and after a brief event, they covered a distance of 33 kilometers around the city. Akshaya Patra is grateful to all the bikers and the Government of Telangana for making Outride Hunger 2017 a successful and a memorable event. The event was flagged off by Shri Kadiyam Srihari - Honourable Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana in the presence of Shri Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa - President, The Akshaya Patra Foundation, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The other dignitaries present at the event were Smt G Vijayalakshmi - Honourable Corporator, Banjara Hills; and Shri Venkateswara Reddy - Chairman, Sports Authority of Telangana. The Akshaya Patra food truck made its second stop at Global Village Tech Park in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bengaluru on February 23, 2017, as part of its Taste Of Joy initiative. About a 1,000 people working at the tech park got a taste of Akshaya Patra’s nutritious meals, served hot! The initiative, besides offering people a taste of the food we prepare, also brings to their notice our cause of Food For Education aimed towards eliminating classroom hunger. We were heartened by the overwhelmingly positive feedback we received at Global Village Tech Park and look forward to making our next stop!

The evening was electrifying, as singer Sona Mohapatra and music composer Ram Sampath brought all their talent and energy to the fore, to set the stage on fire. Performing at a concert titled Chords of Giving, in aid of Akshaya Patra, at Phoenix MarketCity, Bengaluru on January 13, 2017, the duo, along with their band, gave all the attendees an evening to remember. They were welcomed by Shri Chanchalapathi Dasa, Vice Chairman, Akshaya Patra and were also joined by the Foundation’s beneficiaries on stage. Sona, a powerhouse live performer, sang non-film as well as Bollywood songs. The icing on the cake was a tribute to the late RD Burman – one of India’s seminal music composers! Akshaya Patra had the pleasure to host Mr Sachin Bansal, Co-founder and Chairman of e-commerce firm Flipkart, along with some employees of the company on December 24, 2016. Mr Bansal and his team visited the Foundation’s Vasanthapura kitchen in Bengaluru, along with its beneficiary school – Government Higher Primary School, Konunkunte. They understood the workings of the Akshaya Patra, the process of mass cooking and its impact on beneficiaries. Of his experience, Mr Bansal said, “Really touched by the service you guys are doing for the country. Let’s make India healthy, happy and prosperous.”
