On August 20, 2016, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, inaugurated Akshaya Patra’s first centralised kitchen in Nagpur. The event was presided by Shri Chanchalapathi Dasa, Vice Chairman, The Akshaya Patra Foundation. The new kitchen has the capacity to serve 5,000 children in the area on every school day.
The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd. (BTMU), Japan's largest bank has signed an MoU with The Akshaya Patra Foundation to build a full-fledged kitchen that will provide mid-day meals to school children in Narsingi, Telangana. To commence the project, a groundbreaking ceremony was held on August 11, 2016.
Good shoes are vital for a comfortable journey towards education! TOMS, a footwear manufacturer based in the USA, will place brand new shoes on the feet of 1 lakh schoolchildren in Lucknow this academic year, in partnership with Akshaya Patra. On July 30, 2016, students of R.A. Bazar Primary School in Lucknow received a pair of these shoes as part of this initiative.
