Caught between Grief and Crisis

While they were still coping with the loss of their beloved parents, lest did they know that another crisis was already enveloping them.

In a remote locale of Malaybari, Sonapur in Assam, three grieving sisters were caught off guard with the announcement of nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19 outbreak. They had just lost their parents and had no means to earn or get food; surviving each day with whatever was left behind. Without access to basic necessities and food, how they would cope was a big question in itself.

The Akshaya Patra’s team in Guwahati was apprised of the plight of the three sisters. Responding swiftly, the team coordinated with the nearest police station to acquire their exact location and address. With the support from police and local residents, Akshaya Patra reached the young girls and provided them with essential grocery kit that will support their food needs.

Their sigh of relief at the sight of the grocery kit and their smile upon receiving unexpected support narrated every bit of their hardship. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the woes of millions. Support them with something as basic as food.
