“… for there is nothing heavier than compassion. Not even one's own pain weighs so heavy as the pain one feels with someone, for someone, a pain intensified by the imagination and prolonged by a hundred echoes.
― Milan Kundera,
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
Hunger often leads a child down a path no child ever ought to take. Work as a catalyst in bringing sustainable change in the lives of underprivileged children.
Through its mid-day meal programme, Akshaya Patra feeds millions of children in India who have the zeal to learn and achieve, but not the means. By feeding them that one wholesome meal a day, the NGO gives them the motivation and nourishment they need to pursue an education and a better future with an endeavour to reach out to every child at the grass root level of the society. Akshaya Patra believes that providing basic health care is not enough, under-privileged children also deserve dignity and ensures the same by providing help to them with basic needs, free food and dry ration. Surveys have shown that this mid-day meal programme, that feeds over 1.4 million children from 10,770 schools across 10 states in India, has been able to increase the enrolment ratio in schools and is a reason why children want to come to school.
Now, what if I tell you that you can also be a part of this initiative and that you can feed a child for one whole academic year, just for Rs. 750/- ! Yes, that is even less than the cost of a one-time family dinner at a fancy restaurant. Surprised?
So, why are I am telling you this?
I am are starting this campaign - a campaign to help eradicate illiteracy; to help feed hundreds of children with hygienic food every day; and to do our part in helping the children of our country achieve their dreams. Help us to help them! Your bit will help build a better tomorrow.
(Every donation of Rs. 500 or above to Akshaya Patra is eligible for 100% tax exemption under section 35 AC or 50% tax exemption under Section 80 G of the Indian Income Tax Act, 1961)
