Asha Rani Sharma is a teacher with an experience of 38 years. She is 58-years-old and has dedicated most of her life to teaching children. A wife of a journalist and a mother of two girls who are doctors today, Asha believes in taking a realistic approach to teaching.
Currently, Asha is a teacher in the Government Upper Primary School, Saligrampura, Jaipur. She strongly feels that children should be encouraged to think and only when they start reasoning, they will know the importance of education. She says that as a young girl, she grew up in a society that considered educating a girl, unnecessary. It was a social taboo that she had to break to become a teacher.
Asha further continues to say that during her childhood days, her peers were unaware of careers in the field of engineering, judiciary and medical science. She continues to say, “Children these days are smarter; they have good knowledge on various career options they can choose from.” Imparting knowledge to children in subjects like Hindi, Politics, Social Science, Environment Studies, she reasons and motivates children to pursue careers in law and become part of the judicial system.
Asha goes beyond the call of a teacher and buys books or funds for the education of children coming from low-income families. Children of this school have found a new friend in her since she takes the approach of interacting with children. She is one of the teachers who is certain that young minds become smart adults only when they eat, play and learn. She adds that mid-day meals create a huge impact on the lives of these little children; they are more attentive and receptive to learning when their stomachs are full.
