Each year, around the world, hunger affects nearly one billion people and malnutrition claims innumerable lives! Children are most often victims of malnutrition and hunger. The state of such children don't make it to the headlines but it most definitely cripples the overall development of future generations.
But, do we ever think about those underprivileged hungry children ? How can we end this hardship?
Education is the best and the only way to remove hunger and malnutrition.
Ensuring that children get a free meal at school is not only a powerful tool for combating malnutrition for millions of hungry kids, it is also one of the best education strategies.
Much money has been spent on education: to buy benches, black boards, to paint classrooms and even to put up fences around the campuses for the safety of the children.
But who thinks about the food they eat?
The Akshaya Patra Foundation makes a difference in the lives of underprivileged children and their families by evolving a free school meal program in government schools.
The mid day meal program motivates children to attend and remain in school thereby ensuring their holistic overall development. This in turn contributes to a self-reliant, productive society. It is therefore our endeavor to make sure that children continue their education.
It is a proven fact that children who are fed at school display a higher level of concentration, short-term memory and verbal fluency. Also, the drop-out rate is tremendously low amongst children who avail the mid-day meals in schools.
The program therefore plays a vital role in ensuring a better tomorrow, both for the child and the society at large.
