6) What are the studies conducted to assess the impact of the program?
»  Independent studies are being conducted periodically to assess the impact of the     program on the beneficiaries, and these are some of the quantifiable benefits:
        a) Increased enrolment of children in schools
        b) Improved retention of children in the schools
        c) Enhanced classroom performance of children
        d) Improved nutrition status

A.C. Nielsen (early 2006) has reported that enrollment in Class I in Bangalore improved by 23 per cent; in Hubli by 16.6 per cent; in Baran (Rajasthan) by 41.3 per cent and in Vrindavan by 12.3 per cent during the first year of program implementation.

Akshaya Patra is the first NGO run school meal program in India to have been selected for a case study by the Harvard Business School-USA on its operational excellence.

7) What are the allied activities of Akshaya Patra?
»  Medical Assistance:
    Medical assistance in the form of deworming tablets, Vitamin A capsules and     Becozinc capsules are provided to children in partnership with leading hospitals in     respective cities.

»  Vidya Akshaya Patra:
    Through this division, special coaching classes, scholarships for the meritorious,     teacher training programs, Life Skills program for students, and quality enrichment     program in low performing schools are conducted to improve the quality of     education in the schools being served mid-day meals.

»  Community Service:
    The program is flexible enough to adapt itself to the local community needs and     accordingly support issues such as women's empowerment, environment friendly     schemes, etc.
