Our Achievements

One million and still counting!

Children who were unable to attend school have now found access to nourishing meals and an education; and children who were doing exhaustive work on the streets are now in classrooms, learning to read and write. There can be no bigger joy than knowing we have touched the lives of one million such children today!

Akshaya Patra makes an impact in Karnataka
The Department of Education, Government of Karnataka, conducted an independent study on the impact of the program in the schools benefiting from the Akshaya Patra school meal program.

The study reported:

  • 91.8% of the teachers felt that the attention of the students in the class has improved
  • 99.61% of the students felt that they could pay better attention
  • 93.8% of the teachers felt that there was an overall academic improvement in the students

School drop-out rates reduce
A study by AC Nielsen Org Marg Pvt Ltd, Mumbai, in 2006, has vouchsafed for the efficacy of the meal. Attendance in schools has increased, and the nutrition levels of children have increased. This has enhanced their learning abilities and reduced the drop-out rates.


Employment through de-centralized kitchens
By adopting a de-centralized kitchen approach, the program has involved women's self-help groups in cooking and distribution of food, thereby ensuring a regular income for these women.

  • Baran District, Rajasthan – in 117 villages, 230 women have found a livelihood.
  • Mathura District, Uttar Pradesh – in 87 villages, 273 women have found a livelihood.
  • Nayagarh District, Orissa – in 48 villages, 110 women have found a livelihood

Harvard Business School’s case study on Akshaya Patra
Harvard Business School has conducted a study on our operations and included it in the MBA curriculum as a case study on precision and time management. The study was based on our engineered kitchens, preparing 100,000 meals  in six hours and need only Rs.1200 to feed two hungry children for a year.

International acclaim
US Congressional Hunger Centre (CHC) has awarded an International Fellow to Akshaya Patra out of 35 social organizations around the world. World Economic Forum invited Akshaya Patra to share its experiences for THE PROJECT HUNGER in Africa.
