The Akshaya Patra Foundation is one of the pioneer mid-day meal NGOs in India that started feeding school children in 2000. It is headquartered in Bengaluru and works with the vision that “No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger.” The organization provides school meals to children studying in 22,367 Government and Government-aided schools. It has the distinction of being the world's largest NGO run school lunch programme, serving freshly cooked nutritious mid-day meals to over 2 million children in 22,367 schools of 15 states & 2 union territories spread across 66 locations.
