Top Mid-Day Meal NGO in India

The Akshaya Patra Foundation has been in the service of providing nutritious meals to school-going children since 2000. By far it has provided meals to 1.7 million school children across 36 locations of 12 states in India. The dedicated service of the Foundation has been recognised in several forums, and here is a mention of few accolades:

  • Akshaya Patra is recognised as the world’s largest NGO-run school lunch programme.

  • Akshaya Patra has been ranked 23rd among the top 100 NGOs featured in the 2013 edition of The Global Journal. For the annual ranking The Global Journal considered a pool of approximately 450 NGOs based on three key criteria: impact, innovation and sustainability.

  • This top NGO has also been featured as one of the eight Indian game changers in the inaugural edition of Innowin (India’s first magazine dedicated to innovation).

  • Akshaya Patra is the first NGO to comply with the IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and also the winner of the Gold Shield for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) for five consecutive years resulting in its induction to the ICAI Hall of Fame.

  • Akshaya Patra was considered as a case study as part of the MBA curriculum at the prestigious Harvard Business School.

Akshaya Patra aims to feed 5 million children by 2020. Also, this top NGO has extended its role for the overall development of children with its 'Giving Every Dream A Chance’ initiative, a beyond the meal endeavour to provide mentorship to children to hone their talents. It has also incorporated various innovative technologies in its kitchens to enhance productivity, increase efficiency, and optimise resources so that more and more children can be benefitted with the Mid-Day Meal Programme.
